AFA HOUSE
Being a small plot size, this house is designed with strong visuals created by means of varying volumes and a subtle colour theme- the focal points being the staircase and the MS pergolas on the terrace. The exteriors are treated with a combination of travertine and a subtle white colour. The double heighted porch housing the first floor kid’s room balcony gives a play of volumes at the entrance. The travertine cladded walls that rise up to the first floor roof, get merged into the structural grid that is filled with MS pergolas thus creating a parasol over the entire composition. These pergolas not only give a play of light n shade on sunny days but also prove beneficial in cutting off the direct sun on the terrace. The result is a drop in temperature during summers. Over the interiors- A double height entrance lobby welcomes with the warmth of wooden ceiling and the MS with wood staircase. The living area wall is highlighted with the brown travertine and a narrow slit connecting the kitchen visually. The double height continues to the living area and a wooden bridge crosses as an access to the front balcony. The overall blend of the materials and volume make it a harmonious and a calm composition.
